Sarah Whetsell holding award

Rann Elementary first grade teacher, Sarah Whetsell, was honored today by Weatherford College at the Jack Harvey Academy of Exemplary Teachers celebration.  The Harvey Academy honors exemplary teachers in the memory of Professor Emeritus Jack Harvey.

Mrs. Whetsell has been teaching for 18 years, the last 5 in Dectaur ISD.  She has been at Rann Elementary for 3 years.  Tanya Ledger, Rann Elementary principal, describes Sarah as "very deserving" of this honor.  "Sarah Whetsell is an exemplary person, teacher, and community member at Rann Elementary. She goes above and beyond to establish positive rapport with her students and teammates. Sarah maintains high expectations for her students and herself and exemplifies being a lifelong learner who is not afraid to make mistakes while learning new things. She is loyal, she believes the best about others and she works to cultivate a positive climate both in and out of the classroom. Sarah's passion pours out of her. She spends time pouring into her students, their families, and our staff.  Students want to be in her class and staff members are drawn to her as a mentor and friend. Sarah exemplifies all of the qualities of a leader; empathy, adaptability, grit, listening, and empowering. We are truly grateful to have her as a part of our campus family. She makes our building better." says Ledger.

This is the 27th celebration of the Jack Harvey Awards.  Each year teachers from across the region are honored at this ceremony.  Decatur ISD is proud to be represented by Mrs. Whetsell. Superintendent of Decatur ISD, Dr. Chad Jones, expressed his sincere appreciation for Mrs. Whetsell's dedication and commitment to our students.  "Decatur ISD is a great place to learn and that is because of staff like Sarah Whetsell.  The most important thing that happens in our district happens within the classroom.  I am honored to work alongside amazing teachers like Sarah."
