A fast-thinking DISD bus driver has kept students and staff safe following an incident involving a school bus earlier this morning.
Bus Route 22 was headed northbound on U.S. 287 to drop off 16 students at Decatur High School when a small electrical fire started near the rear of the bus. (The bus driver had safely dropped off the middle school riders earlier that morning.) Quick thinking by the driver lead to a swift evacuation of all students, and another DISD bus was able to pick the students up and take them to the high school.
The cause of the small fire is under investigation, and that bus will be decommissioned during this time period. Another bus will serve Route 22. In addition, all bus drivers will continue DISD's policy of twice-daily inspections of buses (one at the start of each morning and afternoon route).
