A special fundraiser at Young Elementary School this year is close to the heart.

This year, Young's Kids Heart Challenge is dedicated to one of their very own students, a 1st grader named Seeley. Seeley was born with a congenital heart defect known as an Atrial Septal Defect; however, her diagnosis was only discovered a few months ago during a wellness appointment. Earlier this January, Seeley underwent open-heart surgery to repair the holes in her heart. She is now on the road to recovery and ready to resume her favorite activities, including dancing and swimming.

Held yearly across Decatur ISD's elementary campuses, the Kids Heart Challenge is an initiative started by the American Heart Association with the goals of helping our students learn to live heart-healthy lives, to aid CPR training among high school graduates, and to raise money to help kids with heart ailments.

Young's fundraiser is a labor of love, and their hope is to raise $20,000 for the heart association -- money which will help fund heart research that helps kids, like Seeley, have longer and stronger lives. Additionally, our other elementary campuses are also joined the Kids Heart Challenge.

Individuals who are interested in donating to support the Kids Heart Challenge, can visit any one of our campus fundraiser pages on the association's website:
