A time-honored school tradition is extra special in Decatur thanks to our Decatur Education Foundation.
Spring Book Fair season is underway, and the foundation members stopped by Carson Elementary to gift its PreK kiddos with a free book of their choice as part of their Betty’s Books program. The initiative was named in memory of Betty Carson, a longtime Decatur ISD schoolteacher who was passionate about childhood literacy and reading. The other elementary campuses’ PreK students will similarly receive a free book during their book fair later this spring.
Research shows that academic achievement is directly tied to the amount of print books in the home. Additionally, Mrs. Carson, and her husband JE, were founding donors and longtime supporters of the Decatur Education Foundation.
To donate to Betty's Books, please give online or mail a check to 307 S. Cates Street, Decatur, TX 76234 (place "Betty's Books on the memo line).
