The theatre program is taking center stage at McCarroll Middle School.
This spring, beginning level 6th graders have been rehearsing “10 Ways to Survive the Zombie Apocalypse,” a unique play that gives them real-world experience with acting and theatre in an introductory class setting. The plan is to perform the show after students take the STAAR in April.
Additionally, the Competition Theatre class of 7th and 8th graders performed “As If, Cassandra,” by Jason Pizzarello, for UIL One Act Play contest in January. The show placed 3rd, and 8th grader Trinity McElhaney received Outstanding Performer. This was Trinity’s second time to win Outstanding Performer.
The competition class performed so well that they have since been invited to perform their "One Act Play" at the L.D. Bell One Act Play Festival on Saturday, April 5th. They will perform “As If, Cassandra” as the only 4A school competing against 6A schools. The middle school theatre program is currently running an online fundraiser to cover the cost of the L.D. Bell contest, and to purchase additional materials for the 6th grade show. Interested individuals can support the program online: McCarroll Eagle Theatre Fundraiser.
