Student photography took center stage last week at the UIL Basketball State Championships, with Decatur High School's Delaney Wilson landing a coveted opportunity to document the prestigious event.
Wilson, a budding photojournalist and yearbook student, gained invaluable hands-on experience and connected with seasoned professionals in the field. Wilson's participation in the championships, facilitated through the district's communications office, allowed her to capture the electrifying atmosphere and document the pinnacle of Texas high school sports inside San Antonio's Alamodome.
"It was truly such a wonderful experience and I hope to do it again sometime," Wilson shared in a heartfelt message.
Beyond capturing stunning images, Wilson's experience was marked by a welcoming environment.
"My experience there was very positive. The energy Decatur had in that stadium was unlike anything I've seen," she recounted. "All the staff was really friendly and helpful to me and were just overall very accepting."
A highlight of the Lady Eagle's victorious Feb. 28 UIL championship game was the chance to work alongside and learn from seasoned sports photographers and journalists.
"I also had the opportunity to work with amazing photographers who were so kind to me and taught me a lot for the small time we were together," added Wilson. "I would love to go there again!"
The game not only provided Wilson with practical experience but also served as a testament to the Decatur ISD's commitment to fostering student talent and providing real-world learning opportunities at the highest levels.
