Decatur ISD's Gifted and Talented (GT) students concluded their National GT Awareness and Appreciation Week (April 7-11) with a hands-on environmental initiative, participating in the Trinity River Water District (TRWD) Trash Bash. The event, a community effort dedicated to keeping local lakes clean, provided a valuable learning experience for the young environmental stewards.
Aligned with their Earth Day-themed unit, the GT students delved into the complexities of plastics and their impact on the environment. This annual participation in the Trash Bash underscores the district's commitment to fostering both academic excellence and civic responsibility in its GT program.
"I am so proud of how our Decatur ISD GT kiddos are giving back to the community and helping the planet," shared Violet Wilson (GT Teacher).
The TRWD Trash Bash offered a variety of engaging activities, including the popular TRWD mobile teaching unit, which provided interactive educational sessions. The event also featured a bounce house, Radio Disney entertainment, and refreshing snow cones, ensuring a fun and memorable experience for all participants.
By actively contributing to the lake cleanup, the Decatur ISD GT students demonstrated their dedication to environmental stewardship and community service, reinforcing the importance of responsible citizenship. The event served as a practical application of their classroom learning, highlighting the connection between education and real-world impact.
