Science in action!
7th grade students were amazing at dissecting frogs. Step by step they cut frogs up over four days and then took a quiz over frog organs. Mrs. Sapp and Mrs. Goins were great facilitators of the lessons.

Rann Elementary ended the day with an amazing ceremony honoring Veterans. 4th grade presented a music program, Veteran John Crabtree spoke and Mr. McCallion played a bagpipe tribute. Students also created an amazing art tribute that was on display!
We are sad to share that Mrs. Betty Carson passed away on November 9, 2022. Decatur ISD would like to express our deep sympathy and offer condolences to the entire Carson family.
JE and Betty Carson married and settled in Decatur in 1955 after relocating from Kaufman ISD. Betty taught Home Economics at DHS for many years and eventually brought the classroom to homebound students. It has been stated numerous times that Betty taught most of Decatur how to cook and sew. Her recipes which began with the main ingredients of grace and love are used still today in kitchens across the county. Mrs. Carson continued to teach in Decatur until 1998. Carson Elementary, which was named in the Carsons honor, opened in August 2000. The Carsons combined service to Decatur schools represents more than 80 years of dedication to the students and teachers of DISD. She will be greatly missed by her Decatur ISD family!
Services for Betty Carson will be held Wednesday, November 16th at First United Methodist Church in Decatur, 11:00am. Family visitation will be 6 - 7:30 pm on Tuesday at the church.
McCarroll Middle School and STEM @ Enis Elementary shared in celebrating Veterans at First Baptist Church. MMS choir students, DHS choir students, Enis students and other performers celebrated the sacrifices Veterans have made for our country. MMS Assistant Principal and Veteran, Micheal Keys, challenged the audience to support Veterans by exercising our rights, freedoms and duties as a show of gratitude and appreciation.
Carson Elementary started the day honoring those who served. Thank you Veterans!
DISD is grateful for all who have and continue to protect our country. Thank you!
